Financial Report:

Treasurer Art Mousley presented the report on the financial status as of March 1, 2007, with a comparison to March 1, 2006.  The present bank balance is $4865.71 as compared to a bank balance of $3771.62 as at March 1, 2006.  There are no outstanding debts.

Revenue to date increased due to better attendance at all draws and financial success at the \Dusty Baker Bonspiel.  Expenditures to date are approximately the same as last season.

Don Critchley moved, seconded by Arnold St.Onge, “that the Treasurers report be accepted as presented.”     Carried

Correspondence:

  • Letter has been sent to Northern Ontario Curling Association expressing our displeasure with their per capita assessment.  Any cost increases accruing to The New Horizons Senior’s Curling League will have to be offset by raising the annual membership fee and taking some monies from the profit margin.
  • Letter from Iroquois Falls regarding the Roy Carroll bonspiel – The bonspiel is to be held March 13 and 14, 2007.  They would like to have at least 6 teams from our league.  Organize your own teams and sign-up.  Teams must provide their own transportation.  A trophy is awarded to the top team and everyone gets a prize.  They also have a 50/50 draw daily.  Encourage members to enter teams.
  • President Ray sent a letter to Pauline Gubbels expressing condolences on behalf of the league.
  • Letter regarding Wednesday League rule changes from Bob MacDonald.  After a brief discussion the decision was made to discuss an apparent infringement of the spirit of the game (i.e. Have Fun!) with the offending team.  President Ray will discuss the issue with the Wednesday League.

Challenge Round

This event was held February 21, 2007.  The New Horizons League put in an excellent showing.  We lost the trophy by only one game.

Club Playdowns

The Club Playdowns will be held on April 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12, 2007.  There is a $20.00/person participation fee for this event.  The Playdown Rules will be those that were in effect for the 2006 Club Playdowns.

New Member Pins

There is a sufficient supply of pins available for presentation this year.  Art Mousley will dispense pins to the new members.

Seniority List:

There were no questions or issues arising about the present rating list so it can be used to make up the teams for the Club Playdowns.

Closing Banquet

The banquet will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 12:30 p.m.  The food will be catered by D’Eatery.  Wally Holmes is in charge.  (Subsequent to the meeting Wally Holmes passed away.  Connie Grosvenor has graciously accepted the food coordinators duty.)

Rental Increase

The McIntyre CC board has informed the New Horizons Club that any rental increase imposed upon them by The City of Timmins will be passed on to us at the same percentage rate.

General Meeting Agenda

President Ray asked if anyone had any issues that they wanted to have included on the April 12 General Meeting agenda.  Sheila Harrison requested that the issue of changing the Dusty Baker bonspiel to a 5 game format instead of a 6 game format be included.

Over 80 Club

A suggestion was made to have a game arranged for all members of the New Horizons Club who have attained 80 years old.  Publicity would of course be arranged.  A date for this prestigious match was suggested as March 28 in concert with the Wednesday competitive league.

Trophy Donation

The Iroquois Falls Senior’s Curling League have donated a trophy to the New Horizons Curling League in honour of Joe Gubbels.  The trophy will be picked up during the Roy Carroll bonspiel in Iroquois Falls.  We must now answer the question “How do we wish to use this trophy?”

New Horizons Representative on McIntyre CC Board

Due to the sudden passing of Joe Gubbels, a replacement is required to represent the New Horizons League on the McIntyre Board.  Ray Schizkoske will take on this assignment on a temporary basis only.  (Subsequent to the meeting, Chuck Harrison agreed to take on this duty.  Thank you Chuck!)

Other Items:

1.      Challenge Round:  Can our teams be better?  After some discussion it was agreed to leave the selection process as it is.

2.      Defibrillator:  Connie Grosvenor brought up the point that a defibrillator is available in the arena portion of the building but does any one of us know how to access it?

Adjournment:

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Connie Grosvenor
