McIntyre Curling Club, Schumacher

Present:        Ray Schizkoske, Phil Barrette, Ray Ginglo, Arnold St-Onge, Art Mousley,                                                                                                                                    Connie Grosvenor, Ray Dumoulin, Rhea McKane, Sheila Harrison, Anne MacDonald, Bill Vane

1.                  Minutes of Last Meeting

The minutes of the meeting of December 3, 2009  were read by Connie Grosvenor.  Moved by Rhea McKane, seconded by Ray Dumoulin, that the minutes be accepted as presented.  CARRIED

2.                  Business Arising

Bill Vane inquired about an appropriate place and recognition for the broom belonging to George Coupland, who is the only remaining founding member of our league.  Because we rent ice at the McIntyre Curling Club, Bill will approach Linda Larrett and ask if there is a space on the wall where the broom and a small picture and plaque could be installed.

3.                  Correspondence

Ray Schizkoske sent an email to Eric Glaister, president of the McIntyre Curling Club, on February 23, 2010 inquiring about our ice rental for the next two years.  Previous correspondence from the New Horizons had suggested that our increase be limited to 3% per year for 2011 and 2012, which would be equivalent to the rental increase the City of Timmins had charged the McIntyre Curling Club.  Also, the issue of a rebate for the missed curling days in October 2009 had not been addressed.

An email response was received from Eric, who stated that the McIntyre General Meeting was scheduled for March 9, 2010, at which time a new Executive would be elected.  He indicated that the new Executive could address our concern about rental increases.  He also stated that the McIntyre Curling Club was requesting a rebate from the City of Timmins for lost ice time in October, and that if a rebate was granted, it would be passed on to the New Horizons Seniors Curling League.

Financial Report

Art stated that we are running pretty tight financially.  We have 20 members less than last year, in addition to losing revenue for the lost ice time in October 2009.

The viability of our league over the next few years will require a change in our financial structure if we are to survive.  Two suggestions were put forth:

Registration fee $30 (unchanged)              $4 fee for each date curled

Registration fee $40 (increase of $10)      $3 fee for each date curled (unchanged)

Moved by Bill Vane, seconded by Ray Ginglo, that the above options be put to a vote at the General Meeting held after the banquet on April 1, 2010.  CARRIED

Ray Schizkoske will announce the impending vote and stress the importance of members remaining for the meeting to have input with regard to the proposed change.

Moved by Anne MacDonald, seconded by Arnold St-Onge, that the Financial Report be accepted as presented.  CARRIED

4.                  Roy Carroll Bonspiel

The bonspiel will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9 and 10, 2010 in Iroquois Falls.  Six teams are registered from our league, and the schedule is posted on the bulletin board.

5.                  Joe Gubbels Funspiel

The Joe Gubbels Funspiel will be held March 23, 24 and 25, and March 30, 31 and April 1, 2010.  Registration will be $25 for the six days.  Those attending the banquet but not curling will be required to pay $5 for the meal.  Non-member guests will pay $13 for the meal.

When the schedule for the Funspiel is drawn up on March 11, 2010, it will be posted on the website.  Ray S. will announce this at subsequent curling dates prior to the event.

Also, a list of those attending the meal but not curling will be extracted from the signup sheets, and given to Art Mousley.

For spares that share a position and alternate days of curling, the registration fee remains the same, but the spares must pay $2.50 towards the meal.

An announcement will be made prior to the closing banquet reminding individuals who did not curl to pay for their meals.  The amount is $5 for New Horizons members, and $13 for guests.

Rules for the event are the same as those for the Dusty Baker, and are posted on the bulletin board.  They will be part of the game schedule to be passed out on the first day of the Funspiel.
